J’ouvert

At 3:45am last monday morning I hopped on my bike with my recording gear and camera and went up to Empire Blvd by Prospect Park to witness and record J’ouvert 2011.  J’ouvert is the beginning event of the West Indian Carnival that is held in Crown Heights Brooklyn every year.  It consists of numerous steel drum bands, each riding on a different float, playing music and being followed by their fans.  Many of these bands represent a particular country taking part in the festivities and there were lots.  Below is a short audio slideshow of the event.
